How To Help Children Who Struggle With Focusing

“Ben is 7 & can't seem to focus at all. He struggles with reading & basic foundational educational skills - what can I do?”

This is Ashley’s story.

Ben was on a healthy diet & Ashley wanted to do everything she could to keep him away from pharmaceutical drugs like Ritalin or Adderall - which are amphetamines that have been statistically shown in many cases to do the opposite of what they are meant to do all while doing serious developmental harm to the brain function & in many cases creating life-long dependency (addiction).

Was there not a natural alternative to doctor prescribed amphetamines that could help with Ben's focus?

Ashley tried tips, tricks & bought all kinds of programs before she realized the root cause of the issue.

The first important thing to realize is that healthy sleep & maximal alertness are directly linked. A full night's, restful sleep goes hand in hand with being awake, alert and productive the next day.

According to the American Association of Pediatrics & American Psychological Association, lack of sleep & lack of alertness lead to diminished motor skills, decreased thinking capacity, irritability, emotional instability, and cellular/tissue breakdown. These issues can create life-altering deficiencies.

If you notice your child is having trouble focusing in school or class and is getting distracted easily, start with revamping their nighttime routine so they get a full 8 hours. A healthy level of light, deep and REM sleep is an important factor in determining your's and your child's productivity and focus the next day.

Another important factor in how efficiently your child is able to focus is screen time.

Devices like tablets & phones emit Blue Light, which artificially stimulates the brain. Excessive exposure, especially at night, is directly linked to restless sleep, insomnia, anxiety, memory deficiencies, irritability, depression, stress, hypertension and unhealthy eating habits in ADULTS - so imagine what the effects are in children!

Creating (and adhering to) a strict technology/video game schedule is something you can do to cut down on screen time.

"I allowed 20 minutes per day with no screen time after 5pm, and as if by magic he began to focus more, participate in school, and made leaps and bounds of growth in areas like reading where he had always struggled the most."

Ben still has some focusing problems, but these 2 simple, yet highly impactful solutions not only saved him from a potentially life-altering relationship with pharmaceutical drugs, but set him on the right track for healthy, natural growth.
